The WCA successfully held the "Chinese Dragon Boat Festival Family Fun Day" event to promote traditional culture and promote cultural exchanges between China and New Zealand
On June 1, 2024, the WCA/WACA (President Zhu Rende) and The Corban Eastate Arts Center (Luana Walker, Center Director) successfully held the "Chinese Dragon Boat Festival Family Fun Day" event at 2 Mount Lebanon Lane, Henderson, Auckland. The event attracted more than 40 guests, including Carmel Sopuloni, Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, Shane Henderson, Member of Parliament of New Zealand, The Auckland Councillor for Waitakere Ward, Kay-Thomas, The Chairperson of Whau Local Board, Peter Chen, The Henderson-Massey District Councillor, Mike Dawson, Chairman of the Auckland Branch of the New Zealand-China Friendship Association, Wang Jianwen, Director of the Auckland Chinese Cultural Center, Dr. Yang Jian, Chairman of the New Zealand Chinese Business Club and the Chinese Business Federation, David Tai, Chairman of the Auckland Chinese Club, and He Zhiyun, President of the Pacific Cultural and Art Development Association, as well as hundreds of Chinese community members and local residents.
The event was hosted by the New Zealand New Zealand Chinese Association Federation/Auckland West Chinese Association and The Corban Eastate Arts Center, and co-organized by the Pacific Cultural Development Association, Baihua Art Troupe, New Zealand Chinese Entrepreneurs Association, and Qingdao Hometown Association. It has received strong support from all walks of life, including local communities, Chinese communities, and major media units. At the event site, New Zealand TV 33 conducted interviews and reports, and carried out extensive publicity in the early stages of the event. The event aims to inherit Chinese traditional culture, promote cultural exchanges between China and New Zealand, and enhance community cohesion.
The event was themed on celebrating the traditional Chinese festival Dragon Boat Festival, showcasing the rich traditional cultural connotations. Through various interactive sessions, participants gained a deep understanding and experience of the charm of the Dragon Boat Festival. There were not only traditional lion dances and land boat parades, but also wonderful dragon dances, folk music performances, and dance performances, presenting an audio-visual feast for the audience.
In addition, the event also featured a children`s play area, traditional craft displays, and food stalls, providing the audience with a rich and diverse experience and taste. Through this event, participants not only spent an unforgettable Dragon Boat Festival together, but also deepened their understanding and recognition of Chinese culture, and promoted cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and Singapore.
